JD Engineers is building momentum with their latest technologies and upgrades for Specialty Folder Gluers

Why Buy? Rebuild Your SFG with a JD ERSX System

JD Engineers BV is building momentum with its latest ERSX (Energy Reducing Safety Extension) upgrade technology, solving the problem of obsolescence for older specialty folder gluers. In the past, older machines needed to be replaced in order to meet production demand and to comply with modern safety and energy efficiency standards. The ERSX system allows JD Engineers to take older specialty folder gluers (15 years and older) of almost any brand and install modern components that are specifically designed to increase productivity and meet strict safety ratings while reducing overall energy consumption. These upgrades offer both short- and long-term cost savings and significantly extend the lifespan of older machines. The ERSX program is revolutionary in terms of future-proofing multi-point folder gluer lines (MPFG) and offers converting facilities a valuable alternative to expensive replacement costs.

Q-Unit: Automated Quality Inspection and Ejection

JD Engineers is also taking on the issue of quality control on MPFG lines with the Q-Unit upgrade. This upgrade adds a reliable quality control system to most existing brands of specialty folder gluers with either a central shaft or a direct drive system, automating the QC process while maintaining speeds.

The Q-Unit is typically placed between the final-fold and trombone sections of the MPFG and operates within the flow of production. Using a box-follow system with sensors and cameras, the Q-Unit tracks each product as it moves through the machine. Data is collected and sent to the control system for comparison against quality standards. The unit then ejects any product that does not adhere to the defined quality standards. Examples of the quality control data points include controls for length, diagonal, folding, glue application, and QR code positioning and readability.

By automating quality control, converting facilities can remove the bottleneck caused by manual inspection, freeing time and labor to be invested in other areas such as bundling and palletizing.

Training Programs & Machine Support

Training and maintaining a team of skilled operators is essential to production, which is why JD Engineers offers on-site training programs covering topics including machine setup, operation, maintenance, throughput maximization, and ROI strategy. These programs are designed around the customer and are meant to ensure customers get the most out of their investment.

JD Engineers offers dedicated customer support for every stage of the machine lifecycle, with technical support and expert assistance through email, phone, and advanced remote support software. Options for scheduled maintenance and inspections help keep machines running long-term, and spare parts are kept in stock.

Future-Proofing & Innovations

As part of Alliance Machine Systems since early 2025, JD Engineers continues to prioritize new innovative upgrades and future-proofing of existing folder gluers, along with its flagship JD BOXR specialty folder gluer. Products like the ERSX retrofit system and the Q-Unit give customers more options to increase automation without major, costly changes to their current product lines. More information on the ERSX, Q-Unit, and JD BOXR can be found at JDengineers.com or by reaching out to an Alliance representative.
