eSBF Prefeeder

The Special Block Feeder is completely Electric/Pneumatic machine. The eSBF is a corrugated box manufacturing machine that feeds a converting machine with a controlled stream of board. It will increase the efficiency and speed of a line, allow for inspection for individual boards and reduces the amount of misfeeds due to a sheet by sheet filling of the hopper. The eSBF II can be adapted to various sizes of converting machines and can handle various fluting.


The Special Block Feeder is an automatic Prefeeder suited for feed bottomprinting and upfolding machines. It receives each time one stack, with or without pallet, from a floor conveyor.

Theory of Operation

The blockfeeder signals the entry conveyor or shuttle car that it is ready to receive a stack. The stack is transported on the lift which is equipped with a plastic belt conveyor. This plastic belt ensures that even small stacks remain stable. If pallets are used, the stack needs to be aligned at the front of the pallet (max 50 mm).

 

The stack moves until it reaches the backstop. The stack is then lifted to push position. If the stack needs positioning an optional shifting of the lift (option AA) in lateral position (+/- 150 mm) can be obtained.

The pusher pushes a block from the stack. The operator can choose the height of the blocks. This block height can vary from 50 to 400 mm. If the nose of the pusher has created a gap, a plate will be pushed in to guarantee a clean cut. At the moment that this block will be pushed of, the lift lowers a bit to ensure that the rest of the stack stays in position. 

The block is pushed on the staging conveyor. This conveyor transports the block to the pre-hopper. In front of the pre-hopper, the moveable gate is positioned. This moveable gate needs to be set to the correct depth of the board that is being processed. When the pre-hopper can receive a new block, the block squaring, attached to the gate, will open its squaring plates. At that moment the block will be transported into the pre-hopper. When the low level of the pre-hopper is reached, a next block will be transported in. The height of the gate is set by the operator to the ideal heigt for the board being processed. The extendo belts pull the board underneath the gate. This creates a shingle of board. Due to the fact that in the pre-hopper block on block will be processed, the result is a continuous shingle of board towards the converting machine. By changing the gate height and the extendo belt speed, the operator can create a thinner or richer shingle as he wishes. 

The shingle is then transported to the hopper of the converting machine. The operator can easily inspect board as it travels to the hopper and remove defective material without stopping the converting machine. The blanks go into the hopper one by one, this prevents misfeeds. The blanks in the hopper can optionally be side tampered for the best result for feeding of the converting machine. Backtampers are standard. The side tampers can be adjusted for different board sizes. An optical sensor on the end of the extendo detects the adjustable height of board in the hopper. The pusher cycle continues until the last block in the stack is pushed onto the staging conveyor. This system will speed up the cycle and operator doesn't have to adjust the pusher position. After the last block the lift returns to floor conveyor level and ejects the last sheet or pallet. Pallets can be ejected (option I) and even after ejection, transported to either operator or drive side (option J). When the last sheet or pallet is ejected a new stack is called and the complete cycle starts again.

Equipment: The following features are standard on this machine.

* Two user-friendly control stations for fully automatic operation.
* Manual controls for the following functions:
     Lift movements:

     (up, down, fwd, rev, shift, left, right)
     Pusher forward/reverse
     lock height selection
     Shingle gate height adjustment

* An electrical lock-out. 2 mechanical lock-pins make sure it is perfectly safe to work under the lift assembly if required. * The 2 mechanical lock-pins are connected to the main frame safety zone.
* Plastic belting on the lift provide positive, stable infeed and lifting of stacks in the lift assembly.
* Powered adjustment of extendo length to accommodate different sheet lengths.
* A unique pusher construction which provides a perfect and smooth separation of block from the stack.
* In angle adjustable Backtampers on end of extendo.
* A shingling gate (adjustable in height), which transports the separated blocks in a shingled stream of board. This       shingle gate is also moveable to set it to the correct board depth.
* The entry of the feeder is equipped with a walk through safety. This walk through safety is controlled by safety PLC       from Pilz. At the entry 2 photocells are mounted with 4 photocells for the muting function.
* One powered adjustable squaring device just before the shingle gate. This squaring device will square the board to provide a perfect centering.
* Automatic last sheet removal. The last sheet(s) will be ejected out of the machine.
* One (1) pressure regulator / filter / lubricator block for all the air supply of the machine.
* One (1) optical sensor to detect the board in the hopper.
* Extendo conveyor is able to follow the converting machine backstop height when needed.
