Problem Recommended Action Modification Procedure

Problem:

Customers have reported experiencing loosening and breakage of the bolt that attaches the inverter motor torque arm to the stationary inverter mainframe.

In response to these reports, Alliance has redesigned the structural mounting of the inverter motor torque arm to the stationary inverter support. This redesign includes a new bracket to reduce side loads on the main bolt. This change is effective for all new production HSTFs.

For in-service HSTFs Alliance has developed a retrofit modification to install a bracket with design that is similar to the revised production configuration. This retrofit bracket is structurally equivalent to the revised production configuration. The installed bracket appears as shown in Figure 1.

Recommended action:

Alliance strongly recommends that you perform the preventative modification described below on each affected HSTF within 30 days after receipt of this service bulletin. The parts kit required to accomplish this modification will be provided under warranty at no charge to customers of the affected machines.

If you need additional assistance to perform this modification or have any questions, please call Mr. Gary Kneale of Alliance Field Service at: (509) 842-5134.

Modification Procedure:

  1. De-energize and lock out the machine per the Operator Manual.
  2. Gain access to the inverter motor torque arm and retaining bolt. Remove and discard the existing 5/8” dia torque bolt.
  3. Install the new p/n 1033632 bracket with the p/n X0998 5/8” dia bolt and p/n X0075 lockwasher over the existing retainer weldment on the stationary inverter mainframe. Hand-tighten only - do not torque yet.
  4. Mark 4 new holes in the stationary inverter support to match the respective holes in the p/n 1033632 bracket. Drill & tap threads to match the p/n X0353 5/16” bolts.
  5. NOTE:  Use of a properly calibrated torque wrench is essential for the next step.
  6. Install (4) p/n X0353 bolts with (4) p/n X0002 lockwashers and torque to 20 ft-lbs. Torque p/n X0998 bolt to 230 ft-lbs.
  7. Remove lockouts and start machine. Check for proper inverter rotation and operation.
