Recommended Solutions
It is recommended that you accomplish the following actions as
soon as possible, but no later than 30 days after receipt of this
bulletin.
Lockout devices and safety procedures
are provided to bring the machine to a zero energy state and allow
personnel to safely enter the hazard area of the machine to perform
service and/or maintenance. Personnel must be trained to be aware of
the hazard area and always follow proper lockout procedures before
entering the area.
Injuries can be prevented by following some simple precautionary
steps. Please reiterate to personnel the importance of following
proper lockout procedures before entering the hazard area for any
reason. Train them on the following items:
-
Be aware of the hazard area of the machine,
and do not enter the area without following correct lockout
procedures. Always follow correct lockout procedures before any
service and/or maintenance, even for something as simple as
removing a piece of debris or clearing a jam.
Figure 1 shows a plan view of a FEEDMASTER¨ Top Feeder with the
hazard area indicated.

Figure 1: Hazard area of the FEEDMASTER¨
The hazard area is slightly
different for other models of FEEDMASTER¨ such as Mini Top Feeder or
Block Push Bottom Feeder. But regardless of machine model, the
hazard area includes the entire area inside the main frame and
inside personnel barriers, and the entire area above and below the
Extendo conveyor.
-
Be especially aware of the following high
hazard areas.
-
Lift up/down travel area
-
Extendo up/down travel area
-
Inverter up/down travel area (on Top Feeder, Mini Top
Feeder and Universal Feeder)
-
Block pusher up/down travel area (on machines with
tall stack option)
-
Waste gate open/close travel area
-
Always take precautions to make sure that movement of the lift or
other parts of the machine will not create a hazard for yourself or
others.
-
Please contact your supervisor if you do not understand the safety
procedures.
Mark the floor
around the Extendo conveyor to warn personnel of the hazard area
under the conveyor. Also, review the condition of safety decals and
order replacements if necessary. Back to top
